Supporting my daughter’s mental health is an emotional roller coaster and my caring role is anything but predictable. We can be coasting along just fine and then suddenly wham she isn’t coping anymore which can result in her self – harming, displaying heightened challenging behaviours and needing additional support to attend the various appointment which always seems to crop up around these periods.
Having an empathic employer who demonstrate an understanding of my situation really helps me to deal with the mental stress.
The flexibility they offer around my role, so that I can manage these difficult periods, helps to keep me productive in my work and without this support I really think that I may be physically present at work but I certainly would not be mentally.
